This unique and distinctive piece of wood cut artwork is hand craved by a Naxi tribe artist, who lives at the edge of Yunnan province very close to Tibet, India and Myanmar. Naxi tribe has adhered the Dongba civilization some 1000 years ago, which considered humans and nature were brothers, and bestows a spirit of harmony between the heaven and humans. Dongba culture consists of scriptures, paintings, music, dances, ritual implements and religious services, and have preserved them, in particular the scriptures, through the wood carving. Its script, a pictograph possessing more than 1400 characters, is believed to be the only well preserved living pictographic language in the world. In this artwork, you can see their sophisticated carving skill, and their artistic talent with abundant inspiration derived from their unexploited land and nature.
